Feeling Satisfied with My Life

For so many years I have always been waiting - waiting until I reached the age or time when I would be fully satisfied. Satisfied with my life, with my income, with my career and a sense of accomplishment. Finally after 31 years I have found that sense of fulfillment.

As a child I always wanted to be older. I figured when I was older I would reach a certain level of financial and professional achievement that would bring riches and happiness. As I grew older, I still held onto that dream, waiting for the next year or next degree that would finally bring me that job that would fill this void inside of me.

I learned along the way that my life is happening today, and not to focus so much on the future. I should enjoy each day and try to find a sense of achievement and belonging today rather than tomorrow. Although this new mentality helped me cope with an overwhelming sense of underachievement, I still felt like something was missing.

It was not until Allan and I moved to Mexico that I've finally found that sense of belonging. That sense that I've finally found the job that I find rewarding, challenging and enriching. As the joint owner of North American Standards, a Playa del Carmen property management and vacation rental business, I've discovered that my new sense of fulfillment stems not from financial rewards but rather from applying myself to a demanding profession which I not only enjoy but look forward to every day.

The only thing I really want is to be closer to my friends and family in the US. However, as I've learned one has to make due with what is available and attainable and to relish each and every moment I spend back in the States with them.
